I suggest that you first search for a few consultant prospects (see below), then ask each to assess your business situation and advise you on what they could do for you and why what they do is better than others. When your business success is likely to be affected, I would not encourage you to “do it yourself”. In the same way that you’ve developed considerable expertise in your business, there are others who have developed expertise in making optimal business use of the internet. (I’m not one of them, by the way.)

Take a look at http://www.elance.com and http://www.eworkmarkets.com to see if this gives you a good way to connect to consultants.

One business that I know of, in the business of developing and supporting business web sites and internet commerce, is TechKnowMe, at http://www.techknowme.com, and I believe they would be suitable; I’m sure they’re not the only one, just one that I know of, through personal contact with the owner. (I have no commercial connection or ownership interest with this firm.)

    I hope this helps!

There are a number of options open to you. For example, you can post an ad for a free-lance e-commerce web developer on elance.com.

You can search the web for user-groups for the software program that you are intending to use. Once you locate a user-group, you will probably be able to get free assistance from others who are experienced with your software program, or you may be able to contact a consultant/freelancer.

If you decide you want to hand the job off to someone else, try http://www.websitepros.com.
